The most important signage software terms, explained briefly and factually.

D

  • Dayparting Showing different content for different times of the day within a schedule.
  • Display management Managing multiple outdoor LED displays from a single workstation: discovery, configuration and sending.
  • Display properties The technical settings the app reads from a display so the on-screen preview is accurate.

I

  • Inactivate / reactivate Turning seasonal content off and back on later without deleting it.
  • Independent schedule Each display keeps its own schedule, so screens can run different plans at the same time.

L

  • Live data Content shown live on screen, for example a specific item pulled from an RSS feed into a message via a variable.

M

  • Media Library A library of reusable backgrounds and graphics you can drop into any message.
  • Message Editor The tool to build a message for an LED display: text, graphics, zones, timeline and live data.
  • Multi-display Working with several displays at once; the app auto-detects displays on the network.

O

  • On-screen preview A preview that shows what the LED display will actually show, because the app reads the display's properties, before you send.

P

  • Plug 'n Play Automatic discovery of outdoor LED displays on the network, without manual set-up per display.

R

  • Recurrence How often a scheduled message repeats; the Scheduler supports granular recurrence rules.

S

  • Scheduler The tool that plans when messages play, with granular recurrence and year-ahead planning.
  • Send-direct Sending content straight to a display and verifying the display in the field.
  • Sign Options Editor The part of the software that configures a display's options and properties.

T

  • Timeline The Message Editor's timeline controls animations and transparent text over time within a message.
  • Transparent text Text placed over a background on the timeline without a solid box behind it.

Z

  • Zone A region of the display. The Message Editor can split one display into multiple zones, each with its own content.
